DRH JR, Behind the Lens
I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I’m old enough to remember rotary phones but young enough to sometimes take my smart phone for granted. In seventh grade, I got a computer. By midde school graduation, it was up and running. Tenth grade brought a Casio point and shoot camera along with DSL internet. It didn’t take me long.
I used to say I taught myself the skills I know now, but this isn’t accurate. I learned from many, but not in a classroom. Save a single introductory course in undergrad, I sourced my knowledge from peers just as enthusiastic about the still and moving image as I was obsessed. I watched hundreds of hours of YouTube videos. I listened to podcasts and I just shot. I cringe at most of it now. But for every ten frames worthy of recoil, there would be one that was just a bit better than the others. I’m now hundreds of thousands of frames into my media career, and I look forward to sharing my passions with you while curating the best images for your needs.
Outside of media work, I coach speech and debate students, tutor students with special needs, run and play in several games of Dungeons and Dragons and write academic work in philosophy and justice studies, run a podcast, stream games, and once upon a time, my favored weapon was a foil.
